Between us, we have designed and built over 100 gardens. On this half-day workshop we will spill the beans and reveal the plants that we rely on to work well in any garden. We will explain how understanding the six layers of planting that occur naturally in any English garden can help you design successful planting. The course looks at trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials, climbers, bulbs and groundcover planting, suggesting reliable plants for each layer. We finish up by talking about the essential steps for getting plants established, as even the most bomb-proof plant will struggle without a little care and attention when it’s young.
This workshop is run in a choice of venues and your ticket includes refreshments and cake plus entry to either Bowood’s grounds or Westonbirt Arboretum making this a wonderful day out where you can spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the attractions. Bowood is a grade 1 listed Georgian country house with interiors by Robert Adam and a garden designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Westonbirt Arboretum is one of the most diverse and beautiful botanical collections in the world. The Walled Garden at Mells is a hidden gem and is found in the heart of this pretty Somerset village and offers many good walks nearby.
